I throw often and go thru a lot of handles which i buy from H&B. I usualy just sand them down and smack them on with a rubber mallet with a couple coats of stain. However, putting three new handles on every week or so is getting annoying, i was just wondering other methods for putting handles on throwing hawks, or in other words quick hafting because you know its not going to last you very long (no hydrolic pressing, soaking in karosine etc.). The other problom im having is that i sand them down to where i want the head to sit and after a little throwing the tomahawk head is all the way at the and of the handle.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a shawnee with an arrow spike on the back, it used to be my main thrower before i got a bear mountain. It didn't seem to come loose too often especially when compared to cold steel hawks. I always just slid the head on and pounded it in as far as it would go against a tree or stump and tap it back in whenever it came loose; which is always gonna happen when you throw alot, especially if you misthrow. i'd suggest just keep pounding them on and maybe leave them soaking in water at night if you dont wanna use karosine.
