Hey guys, hope I am ok for asking this here, I have located 2 benchmade mini ascents 2s, serrated and non, both new in box in store, "ROUND" holes on both , Whats the deal ? Any good ? When changes to oval ? Do I need them ? , priced $59.00 each, should I do it ? I know very little about these models. I have heard these may be a little older, any help very appreciated, may buy today ?

I think $59 a piece is a little high for those models. I've two of the full sized ones (1 drop pt and 1 regular) and I'm sure I didn't pay more than 40 for either of them.

I know some people bag on them because they're the 'cheap' benchmades, but my large model 834 in 154CM that's seen a lot of use and has held up great - easily as tough as an Endura.

I think if they have the round hole, they are Ascent I's. I'm pretty sure that when they changed to the oval hole, they changed the model to II.

Unless you want them strictly for their now-discontinued collector value (which probably isn't high) I'd wait a few weeks and buy a couple of mini-pikas for about $25 a piece.

Dogplasma, Thanks for the quick response, I am sitting here with the car keys in my hand, yes they are round hole, did not know the model number, but ats 34 steel I know and very smooth, round hole openers. new in box, just thought if they were not going to make them anymore I should consider, never owned a bench, but always liked them. Thanks again.
Robbie Roberson;)

Does any one know how old or when they stopped making them ?

Actually, if they're ATS-34, they may even be Eclipses - but don't hold me to that.

The Pika will be nearly identical with a different steel, so it's not like that product will cease to be.

If you're considering something for a first Benchmade, a Griptilian won't disappoint - you can get one of those online for $59.
