*Help received* Need help: space pen refill loose in the body of the Investigator Pen

Hello,

Over the weekend, I received an stainless steel Investigator Pen that I ordered from an online dealer. I, of course, took the pen a part and now the ink refill is loose in the body of the pen. The refill shakes inside the pen and the sound is bothersome to say the least. When I go to write, the press of putting the pen to the paper/desk pushes the refill further up inside the pen.

Here is the pen with just gravity pulling the refill down through hole for the tip of the refill to come though:

Anyone know what I did. It seems like a piece slid out of the body of the pen when I took the refill out. I didn't notice anything coming out, but that's not to say that it didn't. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I have no idea what I'm talking about, but it could be that a spring should reside between the end of the body and the refill which would keep the tip of the refill at the correct attitude.

I would say that you have lost the little spring that came with the pen. I am not sure if just any spring will work, but for now you may just try one from another ballpoint pen.

For some reason, I was thinking this model didn't have a spring or anything. I got down on my hands and knees with a flashlight and I found the spring.

Thanks everyone!
John

glad you found it, how do you like the stainless model? I have the brass one but it has that horrible metallic smell. Great pen nonetheless though :D

So far I like it, though I haven't really used it yet. I'll carry it tomorrow, now that I've gotten it properly put back together. I'll be more careful this time. No smell to the Stainless Steel version what-so-ever. It looks good and is going to fit in just fine in my office environment.

Thanks again for all the help everyone!

You got to watch those springs. I bought 2 used Investigators that did not have springs in them. I've also had the end come loose in my pockets several times so when I pull out my pen the ink & spring would fall on the floor then have to search for it again.
I'm still looking for a replacement spring for those 2 pens, I took apart every spring pen I had looking for one but its a larger diameter than most.

I just received my new brass Investigator a few days ago with no cartridge or spring! I wasnt heated about it, I know these things happen and I had a Fisher medium on hand to swap out the bold anyway. For the spring I just found the nearest cheapie click pen and cut a piece of its spring off. Needed a piece a little longer than the spring the Hinderer comes with to get the right tension, but it works perfectly.

Great, so now Canada Customs is stealing the ink inserts???

;)

Email Rob, he'll get you your missing parts.
