Help salvaging photos from an existing thread

Hello all. I did a write-up last fall in the Hunting section. It is a step-by-step with a bunch of pictures on field disassembly and breakdown of game animals with one tool, your hunting knife. It is not a thread for everyone, and contains a lot of carcass pictures that are graphic. I am not going to link it yet, because I don't want someone to click in that would rather not be there, and I am not sure if it is necessary to answer my question. If it is necessary, or helpful, to find the thread, then I will provide a link in a subsequent post.

I have been using imgur for quite awhile now, but those particular pictures are hosted on photobucket as I had not yet started using imgur. Also, since they weren't necessarily 'pleasure viewing' I deleted them from my cell phone. The only place those photos are available is photobucket.

I was able to edit the thread and add the '~original' designation to the end of the url in order to get the originally uploaded image to show. They are big, and I'm worried they are temporary. Is there any way that I can edit my posts in another way to more permanently embed those photos here on BF? Or possible copy into imgur from here? Thanks in advance for the help.

I know on firefox you can right click on an image and save it to your computer (it's best to right click then click "view image" to get the highest resolution image, then save it). Then you would have to reupload the photos to imgur and edit each post to substitute the imgur links. I would think that once you have the pic saved to your computer, you could also edit the post and upload the picture directly to BF, I haven't tried that yet though.

If imgur let's you upload pics via url, you could also try using the photobucket link with the ~original on it and avoid having to download all the pics.

I just checked and you can use a url. Go to the post you want to salvage pics from and click edit, on my computer I also have to click an icon in the top right corner to "Use BB Code Editor", that will make your urls visible in the editor.

Then just copy the url for each image one at a time and go paste them into the imgur upload box.

Thank you Corey. Both of those methods make sense now. I will try the url method and see if I can get that to work. Also, I didn't know about the box in the upper right to show the urls, and had been having some difficulty because of that. Thank you on both counts.

This is a brute force approach, but in Windows you can take a screen shot of any picture that you can see and then move it to Imgur from your Pictures file.

So for anyone trying this, I used Corey's copy url approach. First I edited my posts so that the url ended in ~original on all the photobucket images, so that I had the original with the best resolution. Then I just copied and pasted per his instructions in post #2 and voila! they're in imgur, Thank you Corey!! I haven't changed them in the thread yet, but I've got them available on imgur now if I ever need to.

Although I've got a resolution Thomas, what you wrote might help others, especially non-imgur users. And also, I have no idea how to take a screen shot on my laptop. Am I correct that you are talking about doing that from a laptop? Thanks.
