Hello There,
This is my first post in Blade Forums and I am also a new member, so I would like to give a big -HOWDY! to all.
Now I don't want you thinking that I am just a lazy slob looking for easy answers. I have been researching these knives for a better part of two weeks now and I cannot find anything. I can't even get a response from Schrade when I e-mail them. I have looked at every knife book with in twenty miles of my location and have done extensive research on the web, including going through all of the past posting and archives in blade forums.

This is what I need help with:
I have two Schrade Cutlery Corp. knife sets, both mint in the box with all paperwork and the original white cardboard sleeve with the serial number printed on it.

The first set is two knives called Warren Whittler Limited Edition Set in a cardboard box with a woodgrain pattern and gold lettering, One of the papers included says:

"This is one of 1,500 sets created exclusively for Warren Tool Co., Inc. , Rhinebeck, N.Y. by Schrade Cutlery Corp., Ellenville, N.Y. These knives have matching serial numbers on nickel silver bolsters and beautiful Rosewood handles. Both the wharncliffe style blade (Warren #1) and the modified pen style blade (Waren #2) are of high carbon tool steel. Both styles of "True Whittlers" were designed by Warren Tool Co., Inc. to perpetuate whittling and carving as an art and craft. Thank You. Sincerely yours, Fred Clark, President, Warren Tool Co., Inc."

The second knife set is in a box like the whittlers but instead of wood grain it is a fake leather cardboard box, also with gold lettering. The box says Turtle Scrimshaw, Limited Edition. Inside there is a thick clear plastic cover with the Schrade logo in the upper left hand corner.

Here is what on of the papers says about this knife:

"Turtle Scrimshaw lockblade and sheath"

"The sheath is genuine leather with a suede finish. Covering the sheath is the symbol of the turtle made of hand sewn beads. The flap of this unique sheath is embossed with the head of a turtle head."

"The Turtle, fourth of a Limited Edition series of Schrade knives honoring the American Indian. The front of the knife shows the Turtle and the Indian Village. The back shows two turtles lying in the grasses. Only 10,000 serialized Turtle knives will be produced and registered with Schrade."

Below the turtles on the scrimshaw there is a 84, so this knife was released in 1984 or 1985.

---
Does anyone know the release date of the Warren Whittlers?
Does anyone know the value of these knives?
Are they worth holding on to or selling?

Any Help would be a BIG help, because of right now I am lost on finding anything.

Thank You for reading this and for any help!
-Mike

Hi illtaketwo,
Welcome to Bladeforums, the Schrade rep. hasn't been here for a few months, but there are a couple guys who frequent the site who may be able to help. You may also want to post over at Bernard Levines forum which is under general blade discussion.Good Luck!;)

Sounds like some nice knives!

Not sure if these are the same company, but you might ask one of these places if they know anything about the Warren Tool knives. I have seen Warren Tool carving knives in a local woodworking store, but I've never noticed a web-site for them.

Good luck, and welcome to Bladeforums! :)

The complete information on this series can be found in the "International Blade Collectors Association Price Guide to COMMEMORATIVE KNIVES 1960-1990." BY J Bruce Voyles 1995. The book may be out of print however you might wish to contact knifeworld.com Or you might wish to contact Mr Voyles who's email and address I am sure can be given to you (again) by Knifeworld. I am attaching a pic with the info on your particular turtle edition. I hope it helps. The value from the book has not really changed much give or take. Very often the designer of the scrim pictures on these would put his initials or name woven ( so to speak in the scrim.) See if this model has an FG or Frank Giorgianni in the scrim. It may or may not but it is interesting to see who designed the picture and how they got there name in it. If you have any others look closly at them.

As far as the contract made company issued set of whittlers the best way to find out the information you need is to take the advice of Steve 1701d and contact the company who contracted the special edition, chances are they ( or at least someone there should be familiar with it.) Schrade on the other hand has made a multitude of contract specials for various companies and chances are no one would be real familiar with it. These types of sets vary in price from 50 to 150 in value. I cannot be more specific since obviously this was a limited set for employees or customers but this is the price the genre of these fall into. I hope this helps LT Rich Langston

Thanks for all of the great information, I will contact Warren tool co. to find out more on those whittlers.

Cheers,
Mike

I got this reply from Schrade about the Warren Whittlers today...

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Warren Whittler set which you have
in your collection.

We manufactured 2000 of these sets in 1982 for a Company by the name of
Warren Tool Co. Warren Tool employed our services to make these knives, so
that they could sell them to raise funds for a museum called the Whittler
Museum.

We hope that this information is helpful to you, and if we can be of any
further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

IMPERIAL SCHRADE CORP.

Further research turned up this photo it is out of date however it should give an idea into value I would add another 10 or 20 dollars to the value. LT

I have one of the Turtle knives, and know nothing about it. I was going to post in the BRL forum until I saw this one, and I thought I do a little search for "Turtle" before posting, and I found this one.

The name on the scrimshaw is "Frank Giorgianni."

I have no idea of a value for this knife, and since I just came into possesion of this collection having never collected knives before, I don't have any of the literature being referenced.

Can anyone who has one of these books give me an approximate value? Don't know if it matters, but the blade appears to have never been sharpened.

Thanks in advance!

The 'Turtle' is one of a series of 6 (7 if one counts the 'Lance').

Presently selling between about $45 and about $90 on e bay.
