I just picked up a Strider SNG and I want to sharpen it, I use a lansky sharpening system that has fixed sharpening angles at 17,20,25, and 30. I was wondering if anyone could help and tell me which angle I should sharpen at without backing up the edge an insane amount. Thanks to anyone that will help

MODS: let me know if this is in the wrong spot, I wasn't sure where to post it.

well id say a 40 inclusive but i hear strider HT the s30v rather high so itll take a while with the course stone, might want to try a diamond stone

I sharpened up this SMF around, 20 degrees per side, but freehand so Im not entirely sure.

The bevel is high, but not ridiculously.

I also have access to an edgepro apex so I can hit most angles. I have sharpened S30V from benchmade and 5.11 without much trouble. Do you know if strider's heatbtreat will make the steal much harder to sharpen?

The HT is very good on a strider, it will sharpen about the same as most S30V but burr less and finish cleaner. Don't over think the sharpening, sharpen how you like and enjoy your blade.

Mark the edge with a sharpie, then use the most obtuse angle and finest stone and take a light swipe. If the only part of the mark is removed at the very edge, the angle is too high. If the mark is only removed at the shoulder(away from edge), the angle is too low. Repeat until the angle is matched(or close enough).

I don't expect S30V to be that hard to sharpen given that I reprofiled ZDP-189 without much trouble on my Edge Pro.

I believe Strider says they sharpen to 22.5 degrees per side, or 45 degrees inclusive.

I reprofiled my sng to 20 on my lansky and it was like a laser . Then again I think the 20 setting on the lansky is more like 15 per side depending on where you clamp the knife !
