I have been trying to sharpen the top swedge of a USMC KA-BAR and it's acting odd. Only the VERY edge is being striped to bear metal. It also feels weird, cuts paper fine, but I can run my fingers along the edge without being cut. I'd be appreciate any help I can get.

I would guess that you sharpened it at a very high angle. What sharpening method/equipment did you use and how did you determine the sharpening angle that you used?

Sounds like you are on the right track, depending on what angle you are sharpening at. Just keep on going, patiently, and frequently checking for a burr before switching sides. Just out of curiousity, how come you are sharpening the top swedge?

I started with a diamond rod, but switched to a Sharpmaker (40 degrees)

To aid in utility purposes! ;)
With the sharpmaker, should I sharpen one side till I get a burr, or just alternate sides?

Thanks for the help

Work one side until you get a burr on the entire length of the edge. Then work the other side until you get a burr on that side. Then you can start to alternate sides. That will help remove the burr and you can also move to the fine stones.

Thanks I'll try that

I appreciate the offer, but at this point I don't think it's necessary.
