Help Sharpening ZT 0301 S30V

I got my new ZT 0301 in the S30V blade. It hangs up just trying to slice paper. This is the first KAI knife I've had that didn't come out of the box razor sharp.

As you know they have a wicked recurve on them. My tools are a Spyderco "fine" rod and all of the dia-folds from x-coarse to xx-fine. I have a strop with green compound, mounted on a hard surface. I also have 2 hardwood mounted, high quality leather strops with no compund on them at all.

I have the Magna-Guide holder for the dia-folds too btw. I want this thing to slice copy paper without hanging up without getting bends or squeals like I'm getting now! Any suggestions welcome. :)
 
Sandpaper on a closet rod dowel works for larger recurves. You can use it like a crock stick.
 
The diafolds will work freehand, don't use the guide. Work with very little pressure or you will rip the diamonds from the edge of the hone. If you are following the factory bevel start with C, smooth out the grind marks while checking for straightness. Progress to EF or EEF and stop, strop a few times IF you have a burr but for the most part don't try polishing too much. The steel will perform well like this as it flows well with its wear characteristics.
 
I got that sucker rip-snorting sharp. I even laid my finger open (not bad) while slicing copy paper (one of my sharpening tests). It's really sharp. I just touched it on my knuckle and saw the pre-bleeding line appear "get the bandaids!"

Like you told me before - I tried to keep the stone at 90* to the blade throughout, which I understand now. Blade curves - stone position shifts accordingly. :thumbup:
 
Another way to go is to call them up and ask how long it would take them to put an edge on it for you. That not withstanding I go with the closet dowel technique..
