Help! Sheared pivot screw on MT Mini Socom Elite

I got my first Microtech a few weeks ago, and I love it . It's a manual Mini Socom Elite and I carry and use it everywhere. Unfortunately, I sheared the pivot screw as I was tightening last week. I live in Canada where loose blades are a no-no, so in order to remain law-abiding, I tried to tighten it up a little but broke the head off the pivot screw. It's one of Microtech's odd proprietary four-cavity screws (one round cavity in the centre and three others surrounding it in a triangular pattern.)

I really would like to avoid sending the knife back to Microtech as they're in the middle of a big move right now and sending cross-border is a hassle and expensive. I was wondering whether anybody has any advice for me as to where I can get a replacement screw (the same type or a torx that fits) or if anybody actually has access to any of these that they can sell to me.

I would REALLY appreciate any help with this.

Thanks!

You just need to know the diameter and call one of the supply houses once you get it out and can assertain that information. But the length may be something you want to make note of also. Call Jantz supply or Texas knifemaker supply and get someone to match one up for you over the phone based on diameter and length but don't forget to match up the head size also. If you get a 3/16" screw with a 5/16" head to fit in a 1/4" counter sunk hole you could be in for trouble.

I finally got a hold of a salesman at Microtech, and he told me that things were extremely hectic there due to their recent move from FL to PA. Regardless, he asked no questions as to how the screw broke (fortunate for me since I broke it) and offered to send me a replecment free of charge and free of shipping costs (even though I live in Canada.)

Aside from the bit of delay in response (about 4 or 5 days), I'm happy with the way Microtech handled it. I'll likely be buying Microtech again as I am very happy with the first knife I've bought from them and their customer service.

Does anyone know where in PA Microtech is setting up shop? As a life time resident of PA I'm curious to know.

I had the same problem with my manual CMTX-5. Part of the problem is that their bushings are a hair wider than the blades. I've had excellent luck filing down the bushing, then reinstalling. I've never disassembled a mini-Elite before, but their original Elite had the bushings, so I think that it'd be a good idea to check. My LCC and CMTX-5 are now smooth, but not at all loose. Just the way I like them.
