My son dropped the knife and the edge hit brick. There are three small chips. How do I smooth these out? Right now the only sharpener I have is the Lansky crock stick system

go to your local hardware store, I am sure they have either a diamond or gritstone out for folks to use. I use the gatco set myself.

They don't look too deep. Eventually with normal sharpening they should go away. Little extra should speed it up. :)

looking closer, you may be able to push some of the main dent out with a honing rod, which would also take care of the little ones and whatever folding there is

Wow for dropping it on a brick that doesn't look too bad.

The lansky will eventually get those out. If you want to redo the entire edge maybe grabe yourself a DMT Coarse stone (about $35 most places). DMT is a maker of diamond grit stones.

Looks more like a dent to me. Id get a honing stone and try to fix it with that. To see if it is a dent, feel with your finger along it and if it feels like a burr, or scrapping on your finger is likely a dent. In this case you can bend the metal back with a honing rod.

Cheap fix on 1095 is to use some sandpaper and then just redge it with what ever sharpening system you use. But those should come out easy. I dropped a 1095 blade (nonrat) on a grill grate last summer and and chipped the blade. 5 minutes on sand paper and then a few minutes on whetsone and edge was good as new.

I did the same thing with my grip, well I dont know exactly how it happend but I got a big chip in the blade and it came out with normal sharpening, well over time. I use the lansky system as well, and if you want to speed up the proccess use a corser stone. Good luck.

That is normal wear and tear. Any good sharpening stone will smooth that out. Being naturally lazy, I'd just do a new edge on it with my Kalamazoo belt sander in about two minutes.

rdouglasc,

If you would rather send it back to us then we can re-sharpen it for you.

Let me know,

Jeff

Actually, the only reason those things bother you is because you hold them up to the light, squint and stare at them. Just go and use your knife, sharpen as you need to and eventually they will be gone. You are suffering from perfect-edge-litus. Its a condition, much like VD, that results from too much contact with knife folks ;)

Like others have said, just resharpen the knife and the chip will disappear. Looks like a very small chip to me. Easy to make it right again.
