So I have an esee 6 with tkc scales, thought it would be a good idea to put a little lock tight in the hardwere when I set the scales......when I wanted tof take a scales off for a patina bath I broke one key in the screw ans the other stripped......what do I do

You broke the key in the screw and stripped another on the Esee 6?

What key? Key as in torx bit, as in broke the bit head off a torx that lodged itself in the torx screw and another stripped? Pic?

Extract, my friend. Extract.

There is also an extractor that can remove debris/junk. Or you can send it back to the company. It will be okay. She'll be fine.

For stripped hex bolts I like to just hammer in a slightly larger, cheap torx bit. As for the one the key broke off in, you can probably pop it loose by thumping the handle on a table or something.

Best advice is to buy better tools. If they fit properly you won't strip the screws and the tool won't break.

I thought they were allen wrenches and tkc provided you with one? Is this not the case?

Yes allen keys came with the scales, the lock tight I used was the red bottle not the crazy strong stuff. The piece of key that broke and stuck came out so I have one good bit head to work with. Think I'll get a really strong allen key and try again.

The red is the crazy strong stuff lol...

Just have to heat it up. There's plenty of ways to do it. I like to just heat the fastener itself with a soldering iron.

That's a great idea. On a side note, I discovered recently that Torx drivers actually fit hex head bolts better than the proper hex key in some cases.

Yeah, I use an extra long set of T handled torx drivers at work for both torx and hex bolts and keep a couple sets of harbor freight torx bits for extracting bolts that other folks stripped. Usually a lot faster than using a proper extractor.

The bottle of my Blue loc-tite is red but says blue on the bottle. The color of the loc-tite is what matters. If in the end you can't get things to work out I would consider contacting TKC. They are great to deal with and I am sure they would help you out. I find it really surprising that the you broke the key they sent with the scales. Seems like they might like to know about that. I've taken down too many Esee handles to remember, even ones I have loc-tited. I find that a quick motion to break the loc-tite works better than a slow sustained motion. Heating it up with a soldering iron is an even better idea. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Buddy if you don't have the tools/time/whatever to do this yourself, go to a local tech. or high school machine shop and ask for help from an instructor. I got to sand blast a set of motorcycle headers once , with their set up, simply by asking.

Thanks guys, I'm also surprised I broke a allen key and seriously bent Another! I have to pick up a new key today
