Hi, I'm going to strip my BK9 but want to leave the coating under the handle. Should I tape underneath the scales and reinstall the scales, then strip, or don't even bother with the masking tape? I'm concerned with the stripper leaching under the scales, especially when I do the narrow strip of exposed steel between the scales. Thoughts?

Yep DerekH's link will hook you up... LOL on my stripped Beckers I just stripped all the blade and tried not to get what was under the handles. Later with the scales on I tapped up the blade around the scales. Removed the scales and shot with a couple coats of spray paint, then put the scales back on and cleaned up any visual paint with a razor... VIOLA easy, fast, and cheap.

I just left the handles on and stripped about 4 of mine that way with good results. Easy, simple, and no need to mess with unbolting anything
