This is the first in a long long while (I think) that I had to ask for help regarding a folder so I appreciate any help cause I've run out of ideas...

Bought a Szabofly and even when I tighten the pivot pins the handles are still loose. So much so that they "jingle". It is irritating me to no end and I wanna find out how to fix it.

I'm guessing the pivot pins are smaller in diameter than the holes (of the handle and blade) but am not sure.

Any of you guys have/had similar problems with the Szabofly?

I thought balisongs were supposed to have some play. if they don't they won't flip.

How "loose" are the handles? On my Szabofly (original production VG-10), there's maybe 1-2mm of difference (looseness) at the base of the handles, which is actually very impressive for a balisong. My Microtech Tachyon (widely recognized as the best production balisong ever) has about the same amount of looseness. My Benchmade 42s and 43s have way more handle wobble, yet they're hardly what you'd consider "loose" for a balisong.

A balisong needs a certain amount of "looseness" for the handles flip freely. So long as the blade doesn't drag against the inside of the handles, there's really nothing to worry about.

If your Szabofly just has a bit of wobble (and yes, they'll jingle a bit), that's fine and normal. However if your wobble is more extreme than that, then perhaps there is something wrong. There should be a washer separating the blade from each handle contact point (4 washers total). Do you have all the washers? Missing one, or having an extra would cause the handles to be misaligned and wobbly.

Well I have to admit, I'm no bali slinger and all I've owned in terms of balis are a Spyderfly, Typhoon and a china POS. I knew that it has to be a little loose for it to "sling" nice but my Szabofly has no wobble, it has clunks for wobbles :)

All washers accounted for. What to do, even the blade is scratching the scales and it is at max tightness?!?

Note: Even at max tightness the wobble/clunk is still there and it's still loose. ?!?

If the noise is bothering you put some kind of lubricant on it. I put militec on both the pivots on mine and it went from being noisy and annoying to whisper-quiet and smooth.

i have a szabofly and i have the same problem. i found that if you take the knife appart there is a spacer that stops it from being tightened. you need to take the spacer out and shave it down a little bit so you can tighten down the screw more to make the handle tight. it worked for me and i only had to shave off .05 of a mil to make it tight.
