Hi gang, long time first time, and of course I'm newly bitten by the bug. But let's get to it...

I started out with a couple Kershaws (Thermite and Scallion) that turned me onto flippers (trendy, I know, but I have fidgety fingers), and in hunting for a higher-grade useful work knife, I pulled the trigger on the ZT0900 for its non-threatening blade size and solid heft. See, I open and break down boxes often during the day, but it's at a retail store, so a 4" blade isn't an option...or necessary, even. The 0900 is on the way and will be here tomorrow.

But here's the thing...like I said, I'm a newbie in this space, so the more I read and learn, the more I think a Wharncliffe might be the right blade type for me. Ironically, I'm even eyeballing the ZT0808, which is very close to a wharny and only a bit bigger.

But am I being a flip-flopper? Am I hemming and hawing for nothing? Am I putting too much importance in blade shape for a non-hunting/tactical knife? Am I just afraid of commitment?! Am I asking too many questions? :D

Please tell me if I'm being an indecisive dork or getting worried for nothing, as the 0900 will serve just fine, or if this concern is warranted.

Thanks guys!

Welcome.

You're going to end up with multiple knives. You'll always think of a reason to buy another one. Just accept it.

A $2 box cutter is all you really need.

I just received the 0808 and it is a sweet knife. I like the fact that I can hold it in the hand comfortably. I took a photo of it next to my 0801s110v and a photo with a deep pocket clIp.

Good luck on whatever you decide.

Aquaman, how dare you bring logic or reason into this! Obviously I need an expensive knife for...uh...hmm...

Nice pics Colorado...where did you get your 0808 from, and can I ask how much? Most places are OoS online, I assume since it's still shipping out to dealers...

Welcome to BFC CraigMang!!!!
Are you seriously asking a bunch of knife knuts if you should buy another knife?????
Well yes, you should get the 0808, I've got one coming. They are sweet knives.
Blade shape is not as important as size when it comes to being around non knife folks. I carry a small Sebenza at work and save the larger knives for everything else. My large Sebenza and my Strider stay in my pocket at work because I work with some non knife people. If I go in the field, only then will I use the large Sebenza or Strider.

If you want a knife that fits in at a retail store but isn't just a regular box cutter get a Mora Electrician's knife. Its a Companion with a two inch sheepsfoot blade. Then get whatever folder you want, because you'll love using the Mora too much to break down boxes with anything else. Seriously they're very comfortable to use.
In 2+ years inventory management, (backroom of a major retail chain) I've used the Mora and everyone who sees it wants one.

Thanks for the welcome, Ajack! I was really hoping someone would reassure me that my purchase will be a good fit for my needs, or at least that it's a useful choice in general, not talk me into a new purchase...because that's all but assured, friend! Just gotta keep an eye on the budget...

Every knife you buy will fit your needs, it's an addiction that may not be cured. But, that's the fun of it, getting a few and hunting for the one that will quench the need for a while. I think you'll be just fine with your choices and needs for a knife. We're all addicts here in one form or another.
BTW, what's a budget that you speak of???? Is it some sort of new folder or fixed blade???? :)

Did you purchase the 0900 because it appealed to you, or because it was the size you thought you should have? If the former, wait til you see if you like it in hand...if the latter, you're more likely to be buying a new knife.
Either way, since it sounds as if funds could be an issue, don't jump for another until you e at least tried the 0900.

I, too, am now interested in this Budget. It's obviously not a ZT - sounds like it could be a Kershaw model...or <gasp> a CRKT.

Just a thought, but, since you mentioned blade shape, have you checked out the 0700?

A good knife for what you need it for that wont cost a lot is the Kershaw "Needs Work".
