Hi all,

I'm new to knives.
I would like to get a knive for my partner but not sure which one would be good to get.

my options are:

Cold Steel SRK or Cold Steel UWK Fixed Bladed Tactical Knife

He uses mostly for hunting survival purposes.

Which one will stand more abuse?

any suggestion is very much appriciated.

regards,
melissa

Do you insist on these two only? I would choose SRK.

If Cold Steel is not a requirment then I would suggest Ranger knives (RD4, RD6, or R.A.K.) or some Bark River (Fox River maybe?)
If he would prefer stainless then you could consider Fallkniven.

Are you in Canada by any chance? Incidentially the SRK, UWK, Bushman, and Master Hunter are the CS fixed blades available through LeBaron's for a reasonable big-store price (all except the Master Hunter, which I think is overpriced for what it can do).

I think the SRK is more practical than the UWK. The UWK might make you feel uber-cool and give you fantacies of crawling through the jungle floor knifing Pajama-pants, but in general less suitable for real work.

i agree the srk is very solid.tops knives have some good choices as well as sog knives.the recon scout is also about as heavy duty as it gets in your price range.ive used one in the woods for years doing everything from food prep to splitting a big ribcage open on a deer.good luck cause there are so many it can be overwhelming

SRK is a good starter knife. or a becker campanion as well. Good prices and good knives.

I'd be inclined to plunk for the SRK. Nice knife, and it doesn't have that "tactical" word in its name. When applied to knives, "tactical" seems to be more Mall Ninja attractant than actual descriptive term these days...
