Hi Randall Afficionados.A buddy of mine gave me this knife all encrusted with about 1/8" of rust along with a box full of others in the same condition. He said they had burned up in a house fire and thought i might could do something with them.Well,i was pretty pleased when this Randall stamp magically appeared via a scotch brite belt and my grinder.I think ill leave the leather washers at the guard and put a crown stag handle on him.Yes,it's full of pits, but the steel is speaking to me.Can you guys tell me the model of this tragic victim i'm hoping to rehab. The blade is 5" tip to guard and was prolly a 10"oal knife. Thanks in advance.Don

Hi Don,

It's a 5" carbon blade Model 3 Hunter. Hard to pin down when it was made because the spacers are obliterated in the photo, but my guess is within the last 10-15 years. No way of knowing if the temper was affected as a result of exposure to the heat, but it looks like a great restoration project for a user. :D

Best,

I can prolly tell if the heat treat is ok when i sharpen it.Thanks for the info.I have a catalog someplace, but my collection is hopelessly disorganized.

Nice save. If the heat from the fire didn't do anything to the brass than I wouldn't worry about the blade too much.

Yep,Im putting a amberized crown stag piece on it today.Ill share the results, good or poor.

Well,This blade sure is ugly with a decent handle on it.But it sharpened to a shaving edge with no problem.I think it will make a good pedigreed user.

I see it's up on e-bay. Good luck with it!

Based on the new pics I'm changing my assessment of the knife: I now believe it's a Model 7 and not a Model 3. Given the blade flat and the original spacers I put it late 40's.

Best,
