I just picked up a small (1.75 inch) Frank Centofante knife that had Lance Kelly nickel silver engraved bolsters (front and back) and a scrimshaw of two roses on the ivory handle incerts. I forgot whom the scrimshaw artist was though. It has a back lock that is only visible on one side. I know that I got a good deal on the knife, but can't seem to find a similar piece to compare value. I'd like to know so that I can inform my insurance company, as they have a single item limit and I'll have to inform them of the approx value.

Would this knife look similar to a classic Lake?
I've seen a few Centofante Lake style knives floating around the aftermarket for years. I always thought it would be a nice affordable piece for somebody that wanted to use that style knife.

similar, but not fully inlaid into the handle. The ivory handle pieces are wedged in between the front and read bolster area's and pinned in a few places.

nordicknives.com has a large one of the model...mine is smaller, but hasa similar look.

customknifedirectory.com also has a scrimshaw model like mine, but no engraving on the bolsters. Mine also has no filework.

My advice is to call Mr Centofante and describe what you have. Chances are, he can tell you everything about it. Also, ask him to give you an approximate replacement value to build the same knife. That value should easily be more then what you paid for it, and that is the value to claim for insurance purposes. As that is what it would cost to get you an identical piece.

My first instinct was to do just that....call Mr. Centofante....but I couldn't find his contact info. Looked for his webpage, looked for his phone # at Superpages.com and couldnt' find either.
