This is my great-great grandfather J. U. Long's pocket knife. He was from Catawba County, NC. Born on 12/25/1843, and died on 11/3/1928. J. U. Long was a POW during the Civil War, imprisoned at Elmira, NY.
If anyone has an idea what it is, please let me know.
No tang stamps? The steel bolsters are interesting. And a nice knife overall, with a lot of it left.
My great great grandfather was a prisoner in Andersonville. No hard feelings.
I think the top pic is pretty good, but that stamp is pretty worn. I might be able to recognize it if I could wet it with my thumb, tilt it in various directions to a good light, and peer through a strong lens at it, if it's a stamp I've seen before.
Your family history is better than a brand name anyway.
