So I just got accepted into medical school, and will be going in July. This will be the first time since I graduated high school 7 years ago that I will have no source of income, no job, etc.

Let me rephrase that, this will be the first time in 7 years that I will not have any money for knives!! (or guns.. or flashlights..)

I do have a bunch of 2011 CS items on preorder, but since I started, I think the longest I have ever gone without buying a knife is about a month. How am I gonna cope??

Anybody else got similar stories/experiences? wanna share how they got through it etc?

Deal with it because your going to be debt with student loans when u finish and by the docs r not going to make nearly what their mAking now. Good luck

I'm a college student, and while i do have a job and some income, I don't have a lot to spare. I cope by making smart purchases, and saving up my money. Like "I really want that spyderco para 2, but i'm not going to buy it until i have X amount of money in my bank account."

Giving plasma and doing odd jobs for people also puts a little extra money in my pocket.

If med school is as demanding as it's supposed to be, you won't have time to cope with anything else. smile face

Find your best folder and fixed blade and sell the rest. You'll need the cash.

You got accepted into medical school. You're going to be surrounded by sharp objects.... :D

Kidding aside.... sure being a student is always tough, but there are perks (if I can vaguely recollect my student days through the haze).

At least when you graduate you will have plenty of lolly to burn and will be able to make up for lost time...

I know my doctor pal least doesn't seem to struggle for cash... ;)

Go to gun and knife shows and do some trading. You can also trade online.

Sell all your shit and buy a one custom folder. When I say custom, I mean a knife you have input as far as design. I'm down to 6 knives and really found a be all end all in my custom Demko.

First I would modify your signature...:D

But I agree with High Desert.....trading and Ebay is your friend.

If you have some gear or extra stuff that you don't use anymore sell it on ebay for knife money.

During the summer try to mow lawns or any other yard work for knife money.

Pick out 1 or 2 good quality knives you want a year and buy those.

I'm in a similar position as you and trading knives gets me by as a poor college student.

Yep I would get crucified otherwise

I guess ebay and trading will be in my future. I mean, as of now, I have everythig I want. Just when the 2012 lineups start coming out, I will be in agony

Btw mikec this is threadly is mostly meant to be humorous/ starting conversation and stories about knife withdrawal

I would just sell stuff. It always surprises me how much $ I can rake in by selling junk I don't even use. I currently have over a grand in stuff on craigslist, all because I drain my bank account to buy knives.

You worry about CS when you're going to get access to a bone saw?

Physician, heal thyself!

Im still just waitlisted this cycle with my fingers crossed. Where you going? PM me if you'd rather, or not. I'm on a few custom makers lists and if I get in, my custom Demko will be ready for me right around the first day of classes to celebrate my admittance. If I don't get in, it's still a nice consolation prize ;)

EDIT: oh yeah, advice on how to get through it? Student loans and credit card debt. You're going to be a doctor. There's plenty of money to pay off debts in your future...

Also, maybe you can get Hinderer's straight from Rick now? XM-18s at 10% off Rick's price is nice...

Oh sweet! Where are you waitlisted at? I got into Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. This is my second round of applications, the first time I applied to only allopathic schools, but this time I applied to osteopathic schools only.

That's funny you mention Demko customs because I recently got my Demko Recon 1 reblade as a "this way I have something to cheer me up if I don't get in or this will help me celebrate if I do get in".

Good luck man! Let me know if you get in!
