Hello,

I'm brand new here and am setting up my profile and the like. I have read the rules but am not clear on certain parts of them.

(Just to clarify the following questions, I own a website that sells a variety of knives and outdoor gear related products. I will not include the link here, lest it look like I am self-promoting on my first post. )

Issue 1: If I want to link to my commercial website(s) from my signature, is that allowed, and if so, at what membership levels?

Issue 2: Self-promotion in threads. Say for example, a member starts a thread asking for suggestions for a knife to do xyz. I happen to sell a knife on my website that fits what they want. I post a reply that includes a link to my website. Is that allowed, and if so, at what membership levels?

Issue 3: Self promotion via PM. Let's say in the above example, instead of replying to the thread, I PM the member that asked the question. In my PM, I include a link to my website. Is that allowed, and if so, at what membership levels?

Thanks for your help understanding the rules. :)

~Adam

Issue #1: As a registered user you are not allowed to have signatures.

Issue #2: Self promotion equals spam especially if you are dealer.

Issue #3: Spamming the members via PM is also prohibited. You also don't have the privilege of PM's as a registered user.

When looking over your site it is quite obvious that you are a dealer. You should have nothing less than a dealer membership to advertise here. If you cannot afford the yearly $850 fee than you can pay month to month at $100 a pop.

So basically, you cannot advertise here in any way, shape, or form without the above mentioned membership.

OK, so the "Basic Membership" level allows signatures, but not commercial signatures?

That is correct.

You have also made it clear that you are a dealer so a simple basic membership will not allow you to do what you want to do...advertise on BFC.

Dealers can have gold or platinum memberships, however, you are not allowed to self promote outside of a link in your signature.

I've also wondered about, what appears to me to be, self-promotion via one's user name. That is in Adam's case his user name isn't quite his website, but not far off. How close does it have to be to warrant censure (case by case determination, maybe)? And no, I do not market the latest in fashionable apparel for rodents.
all da best,
rats...

Looks like dealer memberships are now $200.00 per year.

I suggest doing that, and you can advertise in the dealer forums, as well as have a link to your site.

However, you still won't be allowed to 'spam' the forums.

Heres a link to purchase that dealer membership:
