I figured who better to ask then you all? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on this guy:

Emerson CQC7B Folding Knife 3.3" Stonewash Plain Tanto Blade (no wave)

The reason why I'm coming to you all is because of the stories I've heard of the flipper eating a hole or wearing a spot on your carry pocket. The CQC 7 would be in dress pants as well as jeans. I've never had a flipper or one with a wave. Also, I really don't need to be, quick draw McGraw, at least not at work. And please don't tell me to buy both, I can't afford it.

Please give me the brutal truth. I've also researched and found out about the little cosmetic flaws in them. I've got one thing to say about that, WHOOP-DE-DO. Do they hinder it's ability to cut? I don't think so.

To wave or not to wave.....that, is the question.

The Wave can be very rough on pants, especially dress pants. The nice thing is that you don't have to engage the Wave when you draw the knife if you don't want to. I find it much more difficult to Wave the knife in dress pants consistently since the pockets are slanted. Jeans are easy.

Get the wave if you can. In my experience, it doesn't rub on the pocket as much as the thumb disk, or the g10 scales for that matter. PLUS, you may not use it in the office, but as an EDC it will be there if and when you ever need it. The wave feature, in my opinion, is always a plus and never a minus (so to speak ).

1. Even if the knife has a wave on it you don't have to use the wave when you pull it out of your pocket.

2. The G10 of the handle will, like most all other G10 handled knives, eat at your pants unless you smooth that area under the clip down.

3. Because of all of the above I would get the wave; it is part of owning an Emerson.

The G10, as others point out, will eat your pants a lot faster than the Wave. As for cosmetic issues, there really aren't any on either of mine.

I would get the wave. There are several simple ways to tame the G10 before you carry it. There is an example on the first on second page of this forum. My CQC10 from 2010 is perfect now after a year of EDC.

Thanks everybody. I was convinced on the wave until I went to Amazon and found the semi-auto CQC 7 for $150.
It's a Emerson blade but not G10. What the heck is it and is it any good?

it's an Emerson/ Pro Tech CQC-7 auto. I never heard of a semi-auto. The automatic is a solid knife.

Not really an Emerson, IMO. Emerson design auto made by Pro-Tech.

I don't have one but i can say that the wave is much better than a semi-auto. The wave isn't reliant on springs and is not as likely to jam on you, plus it is legal in a lot more places, faster than the semi and finally its going to attract a lot less attention from our badge carrying friends. So that's 4 for the wave and zero to the semi-auto. plus has been said before it isn't a true Emerson and doesn't have the same quality or WARRANTY!

I sold the only Emerson I had. It was a mini tanto chisel ground knife with the wave. The wave was cool. Just didnt care for the knife overall. I suppose id buy another Emerson someday but it would have to meet my picky standards. lol

Thank you everybody. I'm going to get one, chisel grind and all. This really isn't an all purpose knife, is it? As you can tell, this ol hillbilly from WV has never had a wave or a chisel grind. Heck before I joined BF's, I was happy with my Uncle Henry or Case or Schrade.
