Im trying to find and purchase a(exuse the word)"tactical" sort of folder with the following specs:

g10 handles
blade length bet 3 - 3.5
good steel
good lock
ZERO bladeplay
plain edge tanto or spearpoint
fast opening and very durable
price range up to $150

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

ps. knives I've been looking at so far include BM/EMERSON CQC7, EMERSON CQC7B, and BM 722. Im a bit weary about the chisle grinds, I've heard mixed reviews.

Sounds like the New SPyderco PARAMILITARY would fit your bill. Search for it on the Spyderco Forum. It's due out very soon.

Maybe an Al Mar SERE 2000? Or, how about a Buck/Strider spearpoint?

Check out Cold Steel. If there's one thing they seem to do right its tactical folders.

Eventho the blade is 3.6 inches long, the Al Mar SERE would be an excellent choice, as would the slightly smaller Al Mar Nomad...Both feature VG-10 steel, dual stainless liners, and G-10 scales.

No PC excuses here! Why not the Emerson Kerambit? A few $$ more, Ooops, not Eastwoodesque.. really. Chisel grind, so what. Easy to sharpen, performs beautifully, and for SD, well, 'nough said. Think about it, pleeeease.

Your talking about the sog X-ray vision. The arc lock is where it's at. the lock holds the blade in the in the handle until you tap the the thumb stud. Then the blade is released and flys open very speedy, then locks tight like a benchmade.

"BM 730 in CPM S30V blade steel."

EXACTLY. Fits all specs, and a great knife.

Ok...
If you can live without the G10, and a clip point is ok instead of spearpoint, save yourself about $100 and buy a Spyderco J.D. Smith for $49.95 shipped from Spyderco Factory Outlet!
You'll get:
-zero bladeplay
-over 3.5" in length
-good steel (vg10)
-yeah, micarta can be slippery, but put a touch of grip tape on it, it is SOLID and feels so in the hand
-Spydie hole opens plenty fast even at 11 mm diameter
-Lockback IS a good, proven lock.
PLUS.. you can use the extra money for either lessons or upgrade your Bladeforums membership ! :)

Good Luck.

I'll second the suggestion for the Benchmade 721 - 722. It's excellent, and well under your stated price range (I believe they can be had for $106 at New Graham Knives).

Thanks for all the suggestions - I researched every knife suggested and I WANT EM ALL! But I just purchased a BM 722 and well see how I like it. This is my FIRST benchmade! Thanks everyone for help in this purchase. If I dont like this knife I'll try one of the others. And the quest for the perfect folder continues....

Actually, the "quest" for the perfect folder ended (for me) with the introduction of the new generation C36 Military. All of the folders I buy now are either gifts for someone else or safe queens for the 'ol collection.;)
