Ok so my Fiancee and I are going camping again in a few weeks and I want to find her a knife of her own to use while we're out there. I want it to be a folder, or very compact fixed blade, and it should be easy to handle and very safe to use, she's a bit of an amateur with knives. The other caveat is that it needs to be BLUE, preferably a cobalt blue. She doesnt like the way spyderco's look Ive already asked, I think she would like something kind of classic and simple. Ive looked at a bunch but its a lot to process so I wanted to run it through this great filter! All help appreciated. Thanks!

Go on Benchmade's website and customize a Griptilian with her. She can choose color, materials, etc. I think she will enjoy the process of being able to create her own knife rather than select from a list. Also, this is by far the best option if she doesn't like Spydercos because I'm not sure there are many blue knives out there, Spyderco is the only brand that comes to mind with the Endura and Delica both coming in blue. The Griptilian is also very safe and features Benchmade's AXIS lock.

Something purple is popular to the ladies nowadays. Kershaw Blur Ano'd Purple. Nice folder, very good blade steel, easy to handle, safe to use. Not blue but close enough. Good luck.

^^ Cool looking Blur - but if this is for camping, i'd want a 'grippy' handle.

Benchmade Mini-Grip would be my first vote. I'm pretty sure it comes in a light blue.

Any feeling for or against A/O? SOG Flash II also comes in blue.

I wouldn't want an A/O for camping. And Sog has a very mixed reputation. Lots of problems. Personally I would go strictly with a fixed blade for camping. I don't know if Moras come in blue but I know they come in pink and a few other colors.

My first thought was a small fixed like a Bucklite Max (comes in orange) or a Mora. There's a blue Mora 546.

And I do agree that there are alot of mixed reviews/feeling about the SOGs. I have a Visionary II that gets almost no pocket time. But I have heard alot of good things about the Flash II (might be wrong).

If you like fixed blade knives, an customized Izula would be a good choice...:)

For a fixed, go for a Mora #511 in stainless 12c27 Sandvik steel.
Cost is around 10$ and it is blue!
For a folder I would suggest a Leatherman Juice multitool.
I believe those are availible with blue handles.

Good Luck!

Ah, something like the Izula or Scrapivore could be wrapped with blue cord! Heck there might be a blue Scrapivore, they make a bunch of colors.

How about something like a BK14 or some other "neck knife" and then you could do a handle wrap in her favorite color paracord and get a custom sheath made for it.

For camping, I'd start her out with a blue mora.

My wife loves "my" mora, and commandeers it from me whenever we go camping. She cites the comfy handle and how good it is at "whittling" as her main reasons for liking it.

The upside is they are super cheap, well known for reliability, and are a great starting point for anyone.

Thats just my 2 cents though :).

These have been suggested already but my choices would be:

1. Folder = Customized Griptilian with blue handle through Benchmade website
2. Fixed = Pink Izula with blue cord wrap

Some good suggestions thanks guys! I should have added that pink is strictly taboo for this project. I am seriously considering the bk14 and wrapping the handle with blue cord and making a leather sheath for it since I hear the sheaths on those are pretty crappy. Only problem is since i dont have one yet I would have to order 2 and then make 2 sheaths and I would probably strip the coating and force a patina and yadda yadda yadda man this is turning into a serious project all of the sudden. I wouldnt mind getting her a good folder too though... wish she liked spydies because they do have a ton that i think are sweet and would be perfect... she just doesnt see it though oh well.
Thanks more suggestions welcome!
