So I participate in authentic Mountain Era Rendezvous and am in the market for a new blade.

Heres what I like:

clip/bowie blade
damascus(not a necessity)
authentic stag that hasnt been tampered with(i.e. sliver stag style)
size ~5" blade

Here's the catch. I want to actually use the freaking thing(general woodworking, battoning!!!)Most of the ones i have stumbled upon are more for looks than use. I have located all of the regular brands(Puma, Silver Stag, Linder, etc) and none see to meet my criteria. I know Puma knives are excellent but they style doesn't quite do it for me.

My question is does this kind of knife exist. If not could someone point me in the direction of excellent blade blanks(a solid reputable brand that makes solid carbon steel or damascus.) so i can see to creating my own.

Price isn't a huge deal but as always less is better and i would prefer to stay away from customs

Thanks

How about a Blackjack trail guide or hunters bowe? One of them might fit the bill.

Not sure about production knives, but if you decide to go custom, I highly recommend Dan Graves. Do a search on BF for some of his stuff.

Rendezvous should be the very place to find a period correct knife that will work for you. I have picked up a few fixed blades over the years at the Nationals and other big rendezvous like Ft. Bridger.

Have you checked out "Damascus Knives," I really like the looks of their inexpensive Damascus and stag knives. I'm not sure about their quality though. Pm me if you want a link
