Hey fellow blade lovers!
I have scoured the internet looking for a mykel hawke hawkechete. Where can I find one? Every where I look they say out of stock or discontinued. Please help ! Also if the hawkechete is not worth buying I would like to know. THANK YOU.

Capitalism works entirely on supply and demand. No demand and then no supply. "Hawk hawkechete" has never been on my 'wanna buy' list. For starters what is this strange thing and what are you supposed to be able to do with it?

I'm thinking there are probably a lot of places where possession of a blade like that (with two sharpened edges) could get you in trouble. A machete doesn't need two edges to be a useful "tool".

Out of curiosity, I did a google search for:
hawkchete "in stock"
and in the first page of results there are two places that say they still have it.
(Note: it's spelled without an "e" after the "k")

THANK YOU for your help guys. It has different edges on different parts of the blade for different tasks.

Tanto kukri. Aka: trying to be tacticool... Not sure what you could do with the back edge with the angle of the handle...

Op's just looking for help finding a knife he likes. Who cares if you think it's a dumb design, he can like what he wants. No need for this constant negativity towards unusual tastes.

I mean, I also think it's not a useful design, but I've definitely liked some knives that weren't the most practical.

From a look at what pictures work on the site of this and their other offerings this appears to be one of those designs that has many uses but probably doesn't excel at any of them. Looks to be geared towards the Zombie killer,
Wanna be market?

I could be wrong? Do you have decent Machete to start with and what is your intended use of said Ninja weapon?

While I'm aware the Mykel Hawke is indeed a skilled bushcrafter who could also probably take me apart without breaking a sweat I have a hard time taking him seriously as every photo I've seen of the man he's posing like he's making an action movie poster. I'm also aware that part of making a living as a "professional bushcrafter" is selling merchandise with your own unique twist. Stroud and Grylls do it too and I can't blame a guy for trying to make a buck.

All that aside, having often swung and been in the company of many folks swinging machetes and having seen accidental injuries from an unexpectedly deflected blade, that thing looks like something the scoutmaster, the work crew foreman, and the squad leader would all tell me to put back where I found it before I hurt someone.

Looks like something designed for "selling", not for "using".

I would not buy it... but then I am a stingy curmudgeon.

For the record... I have one of those condor combat machete things that is very similar in many ways (made by condor, sharpened on both sides, light weight). I bought it for the lols at an insane discount but it isn't a lot of use for anything. The second edge gets in the way and there isn't enough weight for useful chopping. I'll stick with my chainsaw.

But, depending on the design and intended application, they can be extremely useful. ;)

However, despite being manufactured for Mr. Hawke by Condor, the "Hawkchete" is a fundamentally flawed design that looks like it was brought to life from a connect-the-dots book. I'd stay away from it.

I've had one of the Combat Machetes for more than 8 years now and I've found it useful in situations where I might end up needing to chop something but it's not my primary intended activity and I need to keep my gear on the smaller side. The double edge has never gotten in the way for me. It's far from my most-used machete but it does have a useful role to play. That being said, it's certainly a poor substitute for a chainsaw, so yes you might want to keep using your chainsaw for chainsaw tasks. :D

Fair enough. :D

For small amounts of saplings, thin branches or other vegetation a machete can do the trick. Anything bigger than my thumb though and I am getting out the chainsaw. Anything more than a few trees and I am getting out the forestry harvester or mulcher. The right tool for the job and all that. ;)

So a more accurate statement would be that the CCM doesn't do me a lot of good.

Oh yes. The double edge gets in the way for me if I want to baton.

Plenty of space for you to baton without hitting the partial back edge, and most of the time when you're batoning it's for fire prep. Chew up your baton? It's just going on the fire when you're done anyhow. ;)

Also, depending on the machete you can go through stuff up to 1.5" or even more in a single strike. But your particular application does dictate the best tool for the job and it sounds like in your circumstances if having a chainsaw is viable then it's probably easier for you to just do all of your work with the saw rather than switch tools.

I use the hawkchete as my primary machete and I love it, it's a chopping machine. See Chris Tanner's review of it (preparedminds101). I don't really have terrible taste either, my other primaries (non machete) are a BK7 in a custom Kydex with a BK14 piggyback, and a BK9 for batoning.
