Hello guys.I was wondering if anyone could help me.I just got a knife and I cant decide if it is stainless or carbon steel.I would really appreciate any ideas on tests that could show the difference between ss and carbon steel.Any help would be appreciated.thanks

What kind of knife? That will probably be the easiest way to answer the question.

It is a Relentless- M1 Commando.I contacted him and he said it was 440c or 5160,but even him did not know because it isn't marked on the blade.THANK YOU

The problem is that this is a very rare model made in 2003,that has his signature and is double edged.I contacted him and he said that it was 440C or 5160.ALL THE BEST

hi Csaba, you got any lemon juice (that concentrate stuff) or some vinigare? dip the tip in for about an hour and see what happen.

I don't have any but I was thinking on putting some salted water on the knife.I wonder what would that do?

cut a tomato, slice an orange don't wash it. if it rusts it's carbon.

What will come out, if the knife is indeed carbon steel, is called a patina. It isn't rust.

I have heard that there was some way you could tell with a magnet, but I'm not sure what that way is.
