Help! What kind of exotic wood is this?????

I bought a custom made knife by D.B. Dodds but know little about the knife and nothing about the man. It appears to have a stainless blade and exotic hardwood handles but I was wondering what kind of hardwood?

Kinda looks like a redwood burl! It's got some nice chatoyance to it!!

Burled wood is hard to tell; it could be stained and if stabilized it looks even stranger.
I would guess maple too, stained maple.

It could be thuya burl or amboyna. I think it is more similar to thuya and amboyna than it is to maple burl or redwood burl. Both thuya and amboyna have been used a lot in knife handles.

Yeah I'm gonna go with Thuya burl too. I've used it several times and this appears to be the same.

My bet is redwood or thuya.

agree with this. Amboyna is a reddish brown burl wood
