Hello ax people! I'm looking for some advice on which of these three heads to clean up, sharpen and hang. For the life of me I just can't decide, so I am reaching out to you guys! Weight is all similar, though they are in descending order from heaviest to lightest, top to bottom (from 3lbs 6.5oz to 3lbs even). I really like the pitted look, so I wouldn't let that play a role in the decision. They all have slightly different shapes as well, though the bottom two are most similar with the top being the most unique. It is for my own personal use, so please help me decide which one would be the best user by taking shape, quality and uniqueness as the deciding factors. Thank you for your help, as always!

I notice you use PhotoPhucket to post links to images. Did this two-faced .org change their ways or did you actually take out a subscription?

That is a good question 300Six. I had several gigs of pictures hosted with them at their first tier ($30) months before they did the about face on users. Your question made me log in again to check. I downloaded all of my pictures and rehosted elsewhere as I will not rely on them even if they said, "We were wrong and it's all going back as it was". Trust and credibility are gone.

I can still access and use it but don't as you never know when they will get around to locking us out after not renewing at their crazy rates.

*Sorry, another vote for the Craftsman!

Sorry, I have no idea what you are referring to. I make knives and stuff and am entirely ignorant of most internet company politics. I had been sharing images via my own personal Facebook account, but noticed other people used photobucket, so I created a free account two days ago and started using them. What I do know is that it is miserably filled with ads of every type, shape and size and incredibly, obnoxiously slow. I am more than willing to use a different photo sharing company if one is recommended to me.

PsYCHoT|K, if it's working for you then go for it. I've learned not to speak for 300Six but I think his question was more out of interest as photobucket shut down access on free accounts/photohosting last year, leaving longtime posters/members here with their pictures stripped from forums - here and elsewhere. They disabled the linking and locked those members from their own material. They were asking several hundred dollars to get back in and use them as a picture hosting service.

Perused your other photos - nice work! We just weren't aware that they were offering the service again at no membership fee as all previous users had there pictures disabled and not able to get in to download them for themselves let alone share on the forums. If you are a knifemaker and share a lot of your work, it would suck to lose what you have posted on different forums.

I like Flickr and Imgur but some guys are using postimage,
Flickr has a lot of options for sorting and organization that makes it easier to find and group your photos, which is helpful. It has some annoying linkage included in the pictures that you have to make a concerted effort to remove if you don't want the name of the file and authoring displayed.

Imgur doesn't seem to provide "native" links that work here to display pictures and I have not found a way to use the mobile app to insert the pictures here - only links. So if you are mostly using mobile, you get links to the pictures (might just me or ios - don't know).

When clicking on other guys' photos hosted on postimage I get hot asian and singles ad banners in my area - maybe that is just me though and maybe not a bad thing... *clearing search history right now ;)
It is weird when my 3 year old is having breakfast and has to ask, "Who dat lady?" when I am looking at someone's half-hatchet (that's my story and I'm sticking with it lol)

Apologies for making your axe thread about picture hosting but photobucket's change last year stripped our forums of a lot of longstanding pictures from some deep research, rare tools, competent foresters, handmade handles, etc. You actually create blades, share, and are proud of your work, and I (and probably others) don't want you to have the same experience.

The Craftsman for sure

Agent_H Agent_H Wow, thank you for getting me up to speed. That sounds really unfortunate, shady, and even egregious of photobucket, and though I was not aware, I don't wan't to use their service either if that is their history and/or potential business model. I will definitely check out the other services you provided, and thank you for those!

Thank you for the compliment as well! I just haphazardly uploaded a few pictures on there to see if or how it worked. Then I started using it to share pictures of current potential (now actualizable) ax projects. Once I get one of the photo sharing services you recommended up and running, I will try to post some more.

No apologies needed at all. As far as I see it, you are being very helpful and I always appreciate people helping me out!

Agree with the above. The Craftsman on top is the winner. All are decent. But I prefer the western pattern as the long toes make it eaiser to buck the bottom of the log. Plus the old Craftsman has great bit geometry and obviously plenty of hardened steel left to work with.

It's an easy choice.

Human psychology is a funny thing. I honestly could not decide on my own, but now that everyone chimed in with agreement on the top Craftsman, I instantly fell in love with it and it seems like an easy choice to me now, as well =] I will get some pictures up once it has the beautifully polished convex bevels and a fresh House handle. Thanks again to everyone for their helpful input!
