So as the title says, i need some help deciding which Hinderer to purchase for my next EDC knife. I've been carrying a Strider SNG DGG for a bit and think its almost perfect size/weight for EDC. So, for XM18 should i get a 3" or 3.5". I've already decided im getting a non-flipper so take that into consideration as well.

Thoughts?

You realize that Rick only makes his knives in batches and even then they are only available to military, LEO, EMT. You could get one on the second hand market for $700+.

I've had a 3" and felt it was a little too small, so I would go with the 3.5"

3" slicer. $600-$650 in exchange.

For EDC I'd say the 3", the handle size jumps up quite a bit on the 3.5 which means taking more pocket space obviously.

I had a 3" slicer and a 3.5" Spanto grind. The 3" was too small...like a small Sebenza and the 3.5" was too bulky, clunky, heavy. There are as many opinions on this as there are people, so I don't expect many to agree. I realize that the quality is there, but I want a ~3.3" blade in a folder that doesn't run over about five ounces. And Hinderer doesn't make that. I had a 0550 and a 0551 also and both are excellent Hinderer-designed knives, but all were too heavy-duty for my EDC needs.
I've had a few Sng's and that's a nice size and weight. But I guess I'm more into Sebenzas...and a Umnumzaan if I want "tactical" appearance and capability. I am also fond of my new Spyderco Brad Southard...with a 3.5" blade, 4.1 ounces, has an excellent blade-steel and is a manual flipper. I really like this knife, and I've been carrying it for several weeks.

Really comes down to the size of your hands. For me, with small/medium hands, the 3" is perfect.

Oh, and legal issues, if you are going to travel at all, some states have 3" limits.
