Hey guys i posted in another thread but i thought id just start my own. Im going to be picking up an 0350 soon it will be for utility purposes but mainly for use at CBP.(cutting up car seats, carpeting, and maybe a gas tank occasionally) im trying to decide which steel to go with. im mainly interested in toughness and edge holding. from what ive looked at so far it appears Elmax is the perfect mid-point between s-30v and zdp. any help would be great. thanks

If you're looking for toughness, I would go with Elmax as a first choice, and S30V as a second. ZDP-189 holds a great edge, but it is less tough than the other choices.

I agree, the elmax on my 0551 seems like it could take a beating without even thinking about losing it's edge. Haven't had good luck with s30v as far as being "tough".

I have had good luck with S30V as far as toughness, but I use a folder as a folder, nothing else. Even my 350, tough as it was, just did folding knife chores for me. If it was me, I'd try the Elmax version. I've never used it but I hear good things about it's edge-holding and it's toughness from those who have.

Any plans on making more with Elmax? Some of us missed out.
