I posted this on mt&e but I think this is place that could be the most help. My father gave me a new in box 885uh that the packing foam seems to have etched the shield and bolsters. has anyone had this problem, if so how can i fix it.

Larry, I suggest you take your question over to the Maintenance, tinkering ,and embellishment forum and give it a whirl there.

Larry, is there pitting in the metal? If it's just heavy surface tarnish you should be able to get it out with a decent polish (Flitz for example). Do you have a picture?

This must have been a brown box model.

I had some 3rd Gens that had tarnish in the liners because of the green spongy stuff. It was pretty much permanent.

first of all thank you for your replies. I used some brasso and got most of the etching off. I think a few more shots at it will do fine. it was a brown box but this one had red foam packing. the funny part of this is I gave dad the knife many years ago and he does not realize it, he is 87 so i can understand being 61 myself. this knife is going to stay with me until i forget where i got it then I'll pass it on.

thanks, Larry
