I believe this to be the place to put this, not 100% sure though.

I'm in the market for a digital point and shoot camera. Something simple that takes good macro and has a decent overall quality. I have a few in mind, but I just want to see what yinz recommend to me and see if it matches what I was lookin at. I have a dslr from my grandfather, but its beyond my full comprehension still and it runs off AA's. Every 10 pictures give or take you gotta put four new ones it. It gets pricey...

My only restrictions are as follows:

Less than $150 I'm on a tight budget.
Good macro or close up shooting
POINT AND SHOOT DIGITAL
Rechargeable battery

I think that's it.

Welcome to BFC!

First off, there is a phtography section on here, but for real, in depth reviews check out DPReviw.com. I have had a couple point and shoots over the years and the biggest two features I look for are amount of optical zoom, and physical size of the optics.

Thank you. I will look into the photo section here and that site. My apologies though I didn't see a specific forum for it, I'll have to look harder next time. I'm not too big on photography and my little brother is getting into it from our local CTC school but still doesn't know enough to help me. I was thinking about zoom as for my phone I get as close as it'll focus then I use its digital zoom to get a hair closer but digital sucks. The one I was looking at has 10x optical and it says 4.5-45mm below the lens so I guess thats the size of the optics.

No worries! If you look right below the reply to thread button, you should see the string of areas your in. Click on community discussion forums and scroll down to Photography.

The 4.5-45mm is the focal length of the lens. I meant actual diameter, larger diameter will shoot much better in low light. Faster shutter speeds means less blurry low light shots. Things like indoor, often macro stuff, and evenings will look better.

I have a Nikon S1 with a very small lens, maybe 3/8" diameter, and it needs a tripod or steady rest for low light shots. Its a great camera, a little older, but still great.

Thank you kindly for your help, I looked on that site and they have nothing on the coolpix s6300 that I have been looking at nor does the photo section on here. I haven't been able to find many reviews of it but it seems to have what I want for a decent price. The Nikon site says its a 35mm equivalent of a 25-250mm by the way. I found a good review of it just now and it does seem to fit my needs and even it its not the best it should be better than my cellphone.

The MH-C9000 allows you to keep a healthy herd of NiMH AA batteries. You know when they're dead, or dying, you can pair them up, and try to fix ones that haven't been doing too well. All of a sudden AAs will be your preferred method of powering stuff.

Get to know the SLR, it's not that hard and you'll enjoy using it once you know how.

I have chargers for AA's but I have to buy more rechargables as the two sets I currently have finally died and won't hold a charge no longer from my RC Cars/Truck hobby. I am also getting to learn my fujifilm slr but I also want a point and shoot for the convenience as well. Thank you for your input and advice none the less Joshua :D. It is appreciated.
