I've just come across a little stash of vintage folders.

I know that they aren't stainless and are high carbon steel blades and they have nice sharp edges.
I have no problem picking them up at a dollar a piece. I think I've found about 3 or 4 decent examples.

Is there anything that I could look at/for specifically when checking out these older folders?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Yep. This thread needs photos. We can help guide you into how to clean them up.

Not sure if I'm reading it right but if you haven't bought them, get them all for a dollar apiece. You can't really go wrong.

Well... If it were I,
**I'd be looking to see if the blades were full sized as opposed to a lot of the blade having been sharpened away over the years.
**I'd check to see how wobbly the blades were.
**I'd check the action to see if they had lazy springs.
**I'd look for cracks in the covers (the handle material)

But, at that price I'd likely not be checking for fakes and I'd probably not be too picky.

LOL! Went back today and didn't find them as appealing once I got to spend a some time with them.
I ended up just picking up a pair of vintage full sized axes and some old mill bastard files instead. :)
But, I'll keep on the prowl and next time, I'll post pics before asking. Thanks.
