Help with a piece of wood, Please

I just received a large piece of Black Palm, I have never worked with any before, does it need stabizing or is it fine as is. Also what is the best way to finish, just sand and buff or what ??

Bill, the only times I've seen it used, it was stabilized. Real good looking stuff that way, polished up like glass, with the fibers showing as end grain.

I highly recommend stabilizing palm. All the palms I've sent in for stabilizing turned out great. Mike is correct when he says it polishes like glass.

The black palm I have is not as hard as some other woods, so I would recommend stabalizing it, just to toughen it up some. I have used it to make pens, and haven't ever noticed much shrinking or swelling, but I can dent it with my finger nail some times.
