Ok guys, I'm new so here goes:

Temperence vs. Moran drop point -

I'm looking for a bigger knife, currently don't have anything over 3" and am seeing the benefits to having slightly larger knife for hunting and camping.

I'm really leaning toward the Temperence based on all I have heard on design, handling factors, general utility. But will a knife like the Temperence also work for skinning and field dressing game? I'm sure it won't work as well as the the Moran, but it will get the job done right??????

Thanks for any input.

Jim

As you can see from my avatar, I'm a big fan of the Spyderco Moran (in either upswept or drop point blades), and if was going to have to do *a lot* of skinning, I'd go with the Moran hands down. It's a great knife for cleaning game.

I don't own a Temperance, but I just ordered one. In fact, I posted yesterday about a great deal at Sierra Trading Post (good through March 27) on Temperances with black blades. You can check out the bargain here: Temperances for $47.96

For general camp chores and fieldcraft duty, the Temperance just looks "right". Nice spearpoint design, flat ground VG-10, and a lanyard hole, which is nice to have if you're working over/near water or around fire. I imagine the Temperance will do just fine gutting a deer, and everyone knows that you use a golf ball to skin a deer anyway.

Both knives are lightweight, offer VG-10 steel, and come with nice Kydex, Tek-Lok sheaths. I don't think you can go wrong either way. But with Temperances going for less than $50 (before shipping) right now, I think I'd start there.

Sal Himself carries a temp. He can carry anything, but wrote in a thread that when he goes out at night, where BIG CATS could jump, he carries a temperance. It does not say everything, but from him, it puts a great weight in the balance...

But hey, like they say: It's not wich one to get, but wich one to get first... ;)
