Help with a Spyderco recommendation?

I'm looking for a Spyderco knife that has the following:

1) S30V steel, or VG-10 second choice

2) Frame lock with pocket clip

3) under 3.5 inches, approx (3-3.5)

Can anyone make any recommendations? This will be EDC with more utility than tactical. For my nephew's upcoming birthday. Thanks.

don't think spyderco makes framelocks (except maybe the new kerambit), but you may wish to look at the Native II/III(S30V, VG10), Delica (VG10), Calypso Jr(VG10) - they are all lockbacks, which IMO are just as good as framelocks.

Also ATR (S30V), which has a compression lock - as good as a framelock.

Hi Climb14er.

The latest Cricket is an all stainless "Chris Reeve style integral linerlock". (just under 2" blade).

(Rather than make up another name like framelock or ??, we found it easier to just give the man credit for his efforts).

The Titan Salsa uses an integral compression lock (2.5" blade).

That's it for now in integral locks from Spyderco.

The small Sebenza and Mnandi from Chris Reeve are very nice, but expensive.

Jerry, I highly recommend the SS Cricket. For EDC utility use, this Spydie can handle just about anything that you throw at it. (The 'just about anything' statement is solely because of the smaller blade;).)

Thin, but SOLID, construction because of the SS scales, VG10 blade with either PE or SE configurations, and of course, the CR style integral linerlock. I've found that when the lock is engaged, it is practically a small fixed blade ....that's how much confidence that I have on the lock.

I added a lanyard to mine, for a little extra handle for better grip, and I find that my SE Cricket complements my S30V Military PE just fine for non-work EDC.

Good Luck

The Cricket would be a nice gift for your nephew's birthday. The titanium Salsa is also great, but more expensive.
