Hello I got this knife from my father. He used to work at Clevland Twist Drill in Mansfield mass with a man named John Hanllen who was a friend of Tony´s and sold his knives in the area. He got it along with a folding knife as a thank you for doing some cnc work on metal used to make Bose knives. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the handle is made of and anything more about this knife. Also the case has the name R.BOSE? Thanks in advance.

The handles look like stag to me. That knife was made by Reese Bose, Tony's son.

Sorry, I read through your original post a bit too quickly. The knife was made by Tony Bose, the sheath by his son Reese.

Its stamped T Bose so its Tony, and the handle is amber stag. I actually really like this one and imagine its great to carry.

Is there anything i should put on the handle to keep it in good shape or should i leave it alone?

Steven65 Thanks for the thread link i enjoyed reading all the post and looking at his work now i want to collect more of his knives. I will have to see if i can get the folding knife from my father the next time im back in the states.

Tony participates on this forum and is a very helpful guy. I believe he also has a website. If you sent him an e-mail with a picture of the knife and your story, he'd fill in some details if he can.

sent a message to tony and got this reply Thanks everyone for your help

That knife is a small drop point deer knife. It doesn't have the steel type stamped on it so it's probably CPM 440V. That was about the time Cleveland twist drill shut down so that's when it was made. The handle is dyed stag, you shouldn't have to do much to it but use it.

so now i just need to research cpm 440v.....

CPM 440V is a great steel that is no longer produced. Some classic production knives were made with it (e.g. Kershaw Random Task, Spyderco Terzuola) but not many customs. It went out of production and per internet legend, Tony bought the last of it. He is the only person I know who still makes knives with it. CPM 440V will take a good edge and keep cutting even after it no longer shaves hair. I liken it to Boye 440C cast dendritic steel, but much more durable.

thanks brownshoe my father tells me he used to grind this steel for tony back in the day before he had anyone in his area that could do it for him. would anyone have any idea what this knife sold for or its value today? not looking to sell just really like to know more about it.
