Help with a Yojumbo blade centering

I just got a seconds M4 Yojumbo. It came with the blade horribly off-center. It was actually touching the right side scale. I tried the paper wedge trick and now it's just favoring the right side but not rubbing which I can deal with (I guess). The problem is that I still hear a rubbing sound about 75% through the actuation of the blade. I've looked at this thing under a light slowly moving the blade back and forth and cannot see where the sound might be coming from. It's definitely not near the tip of the blade where it was originally rubbing the scale. Is this normal for this knife? Should I even be concerned if I don't see the blade touching the scales at any point?

Also, after doing the wedge thing I had to loosen the pivot enough for smooth action but there is a little lateral blade play when locked out. If I tighten it gets more off center and the action gets so tight. Am I just screwed with this or should I try the wedge trick again?

Thanks guys I've never had to deal with this before.

If you hear the sound when you're opening the knife normally, IE with the thumb hole, but when you're using the light and specifically checking for the sound you're opening it a different way (like pinching the spine and then slowly swinging it out), it's possible the sound is caused by putting lateral pressure on the blade during normal opening; that pressure is causing it to rub briefly against the scale. Sometimes that rub can be closer to the pivot, it just depends on the shape of the scale/blade/etc.

I just confirmed and I hear the scraping noise when pinching the spine and also while slow rolling with thumb so not from lateral pressure. It has to be close to the pivot as you said because I still can't see where it's rubbing. Should I be concerned? I suppose I can take it apart and apply some KPL and see if that does anything.

You need to shift the two scales vs one another .....

- Loosen all the scale screws slightly
- Adjust the pivot to it's final position. This should be tight enough that the lock doesn't push the blade noticeably away from the lock-side liner
- Then bend the knife (closed) so the tip is centered and tighten the scale screws; maybe use your wedge to keep the position in place

Hope my wording makes sense.

If you can't see where it's rubbing, I bet the sound is something else. Might be worth taking apart to check and lube, like you said.
