help with adjustable angle stone holder design

Hey guys. Yesterday I tried sharpening a few knives by propping the end of my DMT stones on some wood and checking the angle with a protractor. It worked great! It seems more consistent to have the stone set at the sharpening angle and hold the knife horizontal than to do it the "normal" way. I like it enough to try and build a stone holder that is adjustable for angle. It seems like I remember seeing something like that somewhere online but I cant seem to find it today. Do any of you know where I can find a thread or picture of something like what I am looking for? I basically want to see what they used to adjust the angle of the stone holder. If you guys have any input I would appreciate the help.

I have made a few of these for people and have a few videos showing how to make them for yourself.

Glad to help.

Be careful when drilling the PVC, if that is the type you are going to build. Another forum member had to make an unscheduled visit to the ER because his bit walked off the edge of the pipe.

Other than that, it is quite simple to build. Hope it works well for you!

Very nice job on the adjustable holder Unit. Yours has more angles available then what I built into mine.
Below is a couple that I made quite some time ago.

I have made a bunch of these and the concept has evolved over time and based on the individual needs.

It is a simple concept that works very well for some. This wedge can be used for other functions also. Use the marker and a fine stone and you can adjust the wedge to match the bevel angle/your stroke (this way people do not necessarily re-grind the bevel angle if they don't want to...they can simply continue honing at whatever angle already exists on the knife).

I hope others find this useful.
