I have recently acquired an older 110 which appears to be in in NKCA excellent condition. Per Levines book the knife is a very early pre-68 2nd version with the small nail knick, cast bolsters and single line "Buck" logo. Any idea as to how to further date the knife or estimates to its value?

Thanks!

Scott,
I can help you with info on older Buck factory production models. I need to have a
couple questions answered to be able to ascertain which type 110 you have. 1) Is the
stamping "BUCK" across the tang or horizontal with the blade? 2) Is there a dot
after and at the top of the 'K' in Buck?
3) Is there any type of spacer between the bolsters at the end opposite the blade pivot?

If you e-mail me your mailing address I can
provide you with a detailed listing of the versions and types of the 110. My email address is: loden@dka-online.com

Scott,
I will answer your inquiry on the blade forum
so that all may be informed.
You responded by email that the 110 is stamped Buck dot across the tang and that it
has no spacer between the bolster halves.
Actually, in this version, the bolster has an
integral spacer. One half of the bolster is
extra wide to make-up the space later occupied by a brass and later yet, a steel
spacer.

The version 110 you have is as follows:
1/2 inch through bolsters
440c blade steel
brass rocker rivet
squared frame edges
press fit cast brass frame halves (there may
or may not be end pins through the bolster
opposite pivot end. The halves were designed
to press-fit together. As this often, even
usually did not work, the pins were drilled and one or more brass pins were peened into
the drilled holes)
This version would have been produced from
1966 - 1968. Value is probably $150- 175
if in unsharpened, unused condition. HOWEVER, I have seen identical knives on dealer tables at knife shows priced much
higher ($175 - 250) and the knives were very
used and worn. As always, value is what someone is willing to pay on a given day.
I hope this helps and if anyone is able to
better address value, I would welcome your
input.
