Is this a Buck 102? It measures 8.5" total length, the blade is 4.5". I'm thinking it is a 1960's version, but can't get much closer than that. Just says BUCK on the tang. I'm not familar with Buck Knives and pattern numbers. This knife has been in the family since it was new.

Could anyone give me a little history of when this pattern began, and if there is any way to date this particular example. I would guess the blade is stainless steel since there is no tarnish.

Thanks

From what I know, it's a Buck 118 Personal and made somewhere between 1961 and 1967. It's been discontinued, now for awhile, but still a few of them around, and one of the best designs to my way of thinking.

I believe this knife actually passed through the San Luis Valley a couple times, on our summer vacations up in the San Juans between Creede and Lake City.

Wow! That's way cool! Yeah, you'd have to go through here to get to Creede and Lake City. Been there. Good fishin'!
