Hello,

I am a newbie knife maker (fixed blade) that was asked by a co-worker to repair an old Schrade switch blade that belonged to his father-in-law. Like a dummy, I agreed to, at least, try my hand at repairing the knife and now am in need of some expert advice. Basically, the scales need to be replaced. The problem here is that the cover/button(or whatever it's called) for the spring mechanism, is gone. I also afraid of disassembling the knife incorrectly and would very much appreciate any suggestion for performing the project. I bought the Complete guide to pocket knife repair by Kelly bit it does not cover automatics. Can you help – please?

Many thanks,

You possibly need the definative book on these knives by Richard Langston. I think most knife sites have it, and maybe Palladin Press, or you might contact him direct. If anyone knows those knives, it is he. He might even have original replacement scales for it.

Welcome to the Schrade forum!

Codger. I'll see if I can dial up some contact information on the web for Richard.

Kind regards,
