So the other day i began taking apart my knife to get to the pivot screw and do the teflon tape mod. After putting the tape on the knife and screwing the pivot back in the knife is completely out of wack. The knife wont stay closed anymore, its as if the spring is way to strong, or the axis lock has just completely failed. It also isnt centered at all anymore, its lightly scraping the liners now. I have no idea what i could of done wrong. I've done this before on a couple knives, and have never had this kind of issue. I know i can send it into benchmade and pay the 20$ for a re-assembling fee but i'd rather fix it myself. Hopefully someone knows this knife well enough to help me with my issue. Thanks.

Teflon tape mod? Can you kindly give me some more info on this? I have a barrage and I wouldn't mind making the opening a little bit more smooth.

It's for the pivot screw, it has the same effect as Loctite.

As for OP, give Benchmade a call, they have great service and chances are they won't charge you

the problem is that the spring isn't engaging properly. disassemble the knife, and remove the thumbstuds. you won't be able to reassemble properly with them on. then, put in the coil spring and the blade pivot, then put the blade on. however, when you put the blade in, don't put it straight in; put it in with the blade at about a 30 degree angle above the handle. then, put the backspacer and the safety bar / slider on, all while holding the blade in that position. when you go to put the opposite side liner on, put it on and then the first screw you should put on is the pivot screw. the blade should have a lot of tension on it if you hold it perpendicular to the handle (as in, it tries to go above the handle, continuing the motion). This is how you know it's right. Then, put in your safety bar-tensioner in. Then, put in your axis lock bar and attach the springs to the appropriate holes. Next, put on the right side scale, and screw it in in the order of butt, front-bottom, center. close the knife, and if it stays closed you're on the right path. Put the stop pin sleeve in, then slide in the retaining pin, and then put the screw in on the handle side loosely. Repeat with the other side, and then equalize the pressure on the stop pin retaining pin. it should be good as new now.

you have to take the thumbstuds off, and then put the blade in at a far steeper angle than normal. if you do it right, the blade will try to default to it's "natural" position, about 30 degrees of rotation beyond the stop pin. you need to put the blade in beyond this angle.

Like John above said. It's hard to explain but I too got one apart and it took me a couple hours to figure out how to put it back together again. The secret is that you have to take the thumb studs off.:)

Alright i'll have to give it a try. I was a little worried about taking the knife apart anymore than it is, but i guess since im this far i might as well. Anyone know what size torx i would need to take the thumb studs off?

Nevermind, got the knife back together! Thanks for all the help!

John E woven is right, without studs off no way in hell could I put the blade in its weird angle to engage the spring into the recess, last time I'll be doing a barrage disassembly for sure, What a pain in the ass. Broke a torx head doing it. Thanks for creating this thread guys.
