I recently aquired a bowie style blade. The markings are a little obscured but I think that it says: TRAMONTIA BRAZIL CARBON STEEL
Has anyone heard of this company? The blade seems to be of decent quality although aside from whacking against concrete and dropping it tip first onto concrete and hacking into some beer cans (no damage) I haven't tested it. The handle is some really POS plastic made to look like stag.

No.I use Web TV and don't have scan capability. I was more interested if anyone had anyone had ever heard of a Brazilian knife company called Tramontia and if so what they knew about their knives in general.

I'm going to rehandle the blade if it holds up to some testing I'm going to do on it.

I have never owned a Tramontina but have seen a few. Their stuff does not seem highend in quality but would make decent "beaters" if the price was low enough.
I have handled one of their cane knives (sugar cane cutters) which are identical in shape to my English "Crocodile" brand knife.
The Brazillian one seems to be quite inferior.
The blade steel looks and flexes like unhardened sheet metal while the Brit one is a quality spring steel of some kind. A very tough knife for machete type work around the property. The Crocodile knives are hard to find now (local cane harvesting has been mechanised since the 70s) but I will grab one when I can...under no circumstances, would I consider a Tramontina as a replacement.

If you are not laughing, you may as well be crying.

It was free. Just from looking at the plastic handle I didn't figure the quality would be all that good.
Thanks for the info.

Mike

Tramontina is a company that makes a good standard grade of everyday utility machete's and smaller knives in the same style. Price averages $15-20. Nothing fancy, but good everyday users.
