Getting ready to place an Amazon order for "Gas Burners for Forges, Furnaces, and Kilns" $19.95 and need another cheap book to qualify for the free shipping (Unless you know a cheaper source? :D).

I was thinking about also ordering "The Complete Modern Blacksmith" by Alexander G. Weygers for $13.97

Any thoughts or other suggestions? I don't have to get the Blacksmith book but I am sure it would learn me a thing or two. :D

Thanks!
Ric

the second book is awesome for overall hammering techniques... giveinsight on traditional methods of arms and armor making. how to make knives..... by barney and loveless, is a good book too from what i hear.

Trick,

Weygers book is a good choice if you want to get the basics of smithing and great suggestions for low buck metalsmithing. If you are wanting to do lots of blade work I would suggest getting something on that subject as well. I do not have a suggestion for one but perhaps others on the the site would.

a fellow bladesmith close by to help a little and I'd tell you that just about everything you need to know about making an excellent burner can be found here on the web for free.... Here's a pic of my large ( 9" x 17" interior) forge I just re-worked having used it for three years now.... really quite easy with just a little help. That's my friend and neighbor, Robert standing in front of it; we were drying out the Satinite we'd just painted on the inside. These are easy burners to make and can be found on Ron Reil's site....

Sorry I haven't been around. Had to take my 11 year old dog to the vet today. He may not make it through the night. Hoping, praying. I spent a chunk there and may have to postpone a book order for a week or two.
I have some books. I think I have others. I see some on ebay cheap enough I buy it. I forget what I even have. :D
I will have "The Complete Bladesmith" & "Wayne Goddards $50 knife shop" some day.
That is a sweet looking setup Mitch!
Thanks for all the advice!
