I have a buck 501 left to me by my father , and it doesn't lock up . It hasn't been abused , Hell it looks like it hasn't even been used . If I send it to buick , will they fix it ? If so , how do I get in touch with them ?

Edd,
Yes they will fix it so long as it is possible. Please be sure to state that the knife has sentimental value and that you do not want to it have it replaced. Send the knife as follows:

Joe Houser
BK Inc.
1900 Weld Blvd.
El Cajon, CA 92020

It will most likely be covered under warranty. If not, Buck will invoice you for the repairs. Be sure you provide a return address and your email in case Joe has any questions.
Also, I would send Joe a copy of this entire thread! That way, he can send me the bill if I have promised too much!!!!!!

When the knife is repaired, post back and give us your comments.

Edd, the 501 has been my favorite knife since it's introduction; I still have my first one, given to my by Buck with my name on it and a 1973 date. The 501 is more prone to lock problems due to lint in the blade notch than any other locking Buck knife (and I don't know why). Before you send it off take a paper clip or other stiff wire and dig into the lock notch with the blade closed. It can fool you because it's kind of dark in there so dig a little.
