Hi all,

After a new knife but can't decide which to get  I'm in the UK and one of the problems is its virtually impossible handling the knife before you buy which would make it a bit easier. Had a look at the old posts etc and ruled a few out.

Requirements:

A small fixed blade (<7 inch)
Non tactical look, I like a sort of traditional look with wood/bone/stag handle
$80 Budget for knife
To be used as a general hunting, fishing, household chores knife.
I want it to be a keeper

:)

Options so far I've come up with are in a rough order of prefernce:

Blackjack small
Buck Mini alpha hunter
Bark River mikro Canadian skinner
Marbles Caper

Good bad/choices? anything should definately be on the list thats not?
Input gratefully received plus please feel free to criticise my choices if poor!!

Thanks

Neil

Maybe think about one of the pukko type knive from Finland. Definatly non tacticle or threatening looking. looks like an honest working knife and is.

Could even be put in a picnic basket with some silverware and look innocent, but they are a rugged cutter.

Jarvenpaa, Roselli, Martini, Fiskars, Hackman, are some of the good names.

good luck.

Welcome to Bladeforums! :)

You've got a good list to start, with no bad choices. I have a Mikro-Canadian myself. You might find it a bit too small. Look at the Mini-Canadian as well, for general utility. (You may want to ask about a cheaper source rather than pay full retail.) It's still quite compact. It fits well in this pocket sheath. The Woodswalker knife itself is a good choice, too.

I am a big fan of the puukko. See the bottom of this page for the Norwegian, Swedish, and especially the Finnish knives. You may find a European source is more convenient.

Thanks for the heads up's on the Pukkos - They do look ideal. I shall spend a bit of time looking into them and amend my list/ decide and shall report back :)

Many thanks,

Neil
