Help with choosing 2nd Spydie

I own 1 Syderco. It is a ffg delica 4 in "smurf" blue. I love it. I think the size is perfect and it fits my hand like a glove. It is also very easy to carry.

What would be a good 2nd Spydie? I want to spend less than $100. I want it to be a little smaller to a little larger. The endura probably is a bit too large.

If you can find one used I would highly suggest a Caly 3.5. It is bigger than you Delica and smaller than an Endura, imo the Calys are some of the very best Spyderco knives for edc.

Do you have a preference in blade steel and or lock? I mean, for around $40, you could grab a new liner lock Tenacious with 8Cr which fits into that size category. I recently picked up a bolt lock Sage 3 for around $75 in S30V, and I absolutely love it. There's also the Manix 2 with the ball bearing lock that can be found for under $100. The Native is also a good choice for a back lock. There are a lot of options, it may help narrow it down if you specified what your were looking for.

I throw my vote for a Centofante3/4. About as expensive as an Endura but much thinner and more suited slicing. Looks a lot classier too. Other than that, JungleJim had the other recommendatons I would have done, so I shall just second all of his, especially the Native.

For something smaller try a Spyderco Dragonfly 2 with a 2.25" blade of ZDP-189, British Racing Green FRN handle and back lock.

For something larger try a Spyderco Manix 2 with a 3.375" blade of CPM-S30V, black G-10 handle and Ball Bearing Lock.

Both well under $100.

Smaller, Dragonfly 2 in ZDP

Larger, Caly 3.5

You will own both eventually! :-]

Another vote for a dragonfly (I love my ZDL but a cheaper VG-10 version or even a salt is just as good and a little cheaper).

For a slightly larger knife I'd go for any of the sage series. The sage 3 is my absolute favorite spyderco with the sage 1 close behind that. The blade is only ~1/10 of an inch longer but the handle is very different shape/feeling so its a totally different knife from a delica. Also the Caly 3.5 is almost exactly the same handle length as the delica but <.5" longer blade.

Get something with a fully serrated edge. A lot of folks like plain edge better but once you start using spydercos serrations you may just fall in love.

I need to follow this advice. Sometimes serrations will quickly do what a plain edge will eventually ,assuming its stays sharp long enough.

I'd consider the extra $20 on a paramilitary 2. I own all benchmade and zt, decided I want a para2 since I loved my endura so much, now i can't put my para2 down. S30v, one of my fav steels, g10, compression lock is great if you are right handed. All around top quality very functional edc blade.

My benchmade adamas forced me to get a dragonfly 2, for those high traffic populated Areas where you may not feel comfortable whipping out a large blade, and gosh what a great knife. Only 2.25 inch blade, but it will do 90% of everyday tasks. I stropped the vg10 to a mirror polished, razor edge, and I use it more than any other knife. Still doesn't keep me from carrying my large folders tho, I wear the dragonfly In a kydex neck sheath, whole package is under 2oz. Can't even tell it's there but the knife is a 10/10 for me, in its class of corse

I love my Dfly in ZDP. Great little knife.

I have carried a spyderco native for years, it is an excellent knife. Very comfortable to carry, and looks fantastic
My next knife will probably be a centofante, they are a really cheap price for what you get.

Regardless of what you choose, you'll still pick a winner.

I would second the paramilitary 2.

Or spend a bit more and get a Gayle Bradley. If you ever get a blade of CPM M-4, you'll be hooked!:thumbup::thumbup:

^^ The GB will make you wet your pants.

Smaller = dfly2
Larger = manix 2

If you can swing an extra $10 it's a no brainer. Get the paramilitary 2!

I will also second softrockrenegades suggestion to consider a fully serrated blade. I have the fully serrated pacific salt and though I have many fancier and more expensive spydies, that se salt is probably my favorite knife!

Also, op, you could consider killing two birds with one stone.

Serrated edge dragonfly salt. That's a helluva cutting machine in a small package. And you get the dragonflys world class ergonomics in a completely rust proof knife to boot!
