I’m thinking you guys might know a thing or two about gear. I’m in the market for a decent backpack, any suggestions?

what features would you like?

how much do you want to spend?

i have a tadgear fastpack and love it. camelbak, kifaru, and maxpedition also make great products.

Decent for what? Hauling laptop to Starbucks, trail running, climbing, trekking the Appalachian Trail, ...? Very different packs for different needs.

features ... don't have a clue, 100 or so I would say.

ok. here's what i like in a pack:

-hydration compatable
-waterproof/resistant zippers and double stitching
-side pockets for water bottles
-pouch attachment ladders (pals/molle) for extra stuff
-at least 1500 cubic inches of storage
-padded straps and back
-few internal pockets
-2-4 external pockets (other than main storage area, not including side pockets)

bonus: the tadgear pack (as do others) has a flap that folds down to take a rifle stock and straps to secure the bbl.

Check out blackhawk products, I have a feeling they will have something that might fit your bill

The Pach you have described is a Camel Back BFM I have 1 and its a great pack. For another solution Cheaper Then Dirt cloned this pack and added more webbing Seen Here There available in most of the main colors Here The clone is identical to my CB both are good rugged bags and the stitching looks good. I use the clone as my truck bag so I don't worry about it so much but it has been on 7-10 day hunting treks humped gear back & forth to work. So for a cost effective bag in this size I recommend it.

Moving from Spyderco, which doesn't make packs, to Gadgets & Gear, which is the proper forum for discussing non-knife equipment.

Mountain Equipment Co-op, their house brand stuff isn't as pretty, or light as some others, but they understand that gear needs to be tough, functional and good price. most of it is made overseas, but in socially responsible factories.

I'm not partial to military style packs. I didn't like them even when I was in the military. On that note, I recommend Timbuk2. If you want something military style, I recommend Maxpedition.
