Help with choosing my next knifre

Hello;
I am choosing a utilitarian knife to add to my stash/collection. I got my first knife when I was 6 and Dad said, “This is a tool, not a toy!” so that has always been my philosophy.

I have been vacillating between the 2, 7, & 16, and leaning toward the 16. I currently have the BK-11, a Kershaw Camp 10, various old knives from my youth (Ethan Becker & I are the same age and born in the same state), axes & hatchets from the farm and fish camp, kukris, machetes, and lots of pocket folders for proper situations when I’m “dressed up”.

So I’d appreciate any discussion and pros and cons on these knives.

Go for the BK-10..

I think the 16 will pigeon-hole well with what you have now; it'll bridge the gap between your kershaw and axes etc. for chopping, and your 11 for finer tasks. I love my 16; fits my hand great and has (in my opinion) the prefect blade size/thickness for all-around camp chores. It really does everything well; great for slicing and cooking chores, processes kindling (after you've cut up/batoned the larger pieces), and other general uses. You really can't go wrong with a 16 and a chopper of some sort for all your bush-type needs. Just my 2.2 cents CDN. :)

Well I sure don't know much about knifres but I can offer some advice on knives.

The 2 is a thick beast. Near indestructible but the thickness hinders it's performance in a lot of general cutting tasks. If you want a blade to serve as a true "survival knife" that you don't have to worry about breaking should you get into a bad situation and have to abuse your knife then that's the one to get.

As part of a system the 16 is probably the most handy. Light and nimble it's great for the typical stuff you would use a knife for while the machetes, axes, and other choppers handle the rough stuff. Still very tough if you need to beat on it.

The 10 is great to grab and head off for a few hours if you don't want to bring a bunch of gear. Thin and light enough to preform well but strong and large enough to get you through if something goes wrong.

The 7 isn't quite as handy but it's certainly capable of anything you might need to do, though possibly with a tiny bit more difficulty. Personally I don't find a lot of use for knives in the 7" range. 3-4" for EDC, 4-5.5" for outdoor utility mundane stuff, and 9+ for gathering wood or clearing a path and the other big jobs. I have a few 7" blades though and they are far from useless.

Maybe I should grab all my beckers and make a video since this is a popular topic.

"Well I sure don't know much about knifres but I can offer some advice on knives" Kill'in me....:applouse: I know it's just a friendly nudge..was funny though. :D

I have a knife about the same size as the bk2, and it works for everything. It chops ok, batons amazing, and is an overall great knife. If you want a knife that will do a little of everything and never break, I would get the BK2.

Can't go wrong with the 10 and the 16, but I'd say the 16 will likely get used more, at least it does for me, though part of that is that I don't live in a rural area, so the 16 is a lot more sheeple-friendly. And then also buy the 10 - it's unavoidable my friend.

It doesn't really matter, just pick one and jump in. You'll most likely end-up with most of them anyway. Get the 2 and then work your way up.

He's right, you know. One Becker almost always leads to an infection and then they'll multiply. Once infected, there is no cure; luckily Beckeritis is rarely fatal. In fact, it most often proves beneficial to the host organism, although the cost of treatment may be high if the infection becomes serious.

Another vote for the 16. Fantastic all around knife. I have a BK10 as well, but it hasn't been used much since I got the 16. If the 16 can't handle it, I use a hatchet.....well I use a hatchet until I get my hands on a 4 that is.

See how helpful we are? "Which one?"...

All of them. Buy them all.

There are few brands out there with such a loyal following, regardless of industry. I thought people were crazy at first, with all the "just buy them both because you will end up with all of them eventually".....until one day I realized you were all right!

Fixed that for ya!

it depends if you want a decent size knife that gets everything done I'd say the 16. But since you already have an 11 for small chores I'd say the BK7 is a good call.

...Anyways you probably already ordered the 16 :D
